Restoring Ecosystems and Building Climate Resilience Through Tree Planting

This activity was coined from the backdrop of environmental degradation, deforestation, and climate change which are major challenges affecting communities in Cameroon today. Rapid urbanization, farming practices, and increasing demand for firewood have resulted in reduced forest cover and loss of biodiversity. This situation contributes to soil erosion, water scarcity, poor air quality, and higher temperatures.

Tree planting has always been one of the simplest and most effective ways to combat environmental challenges. However, many community members are not fully aware of the long-term benefits of trees. Sensitizing the population and involving them directly in tree-planting activities will not only restore the environment but also promote sustainable community development. The goal is to increase community awareness on environmental protection and promote large-scale participation in tree planting for a healthier, greener, and more resilient environment.

The targeted population are: Community members (men, women, youth), school children and teachers, local councils and traditional authorities, farmers and local associations. The different activities we will carry out and the strategies to employ include:
N

Community Sensitization Sessions: awareness talks, door-to-door and school-to-school mobilization, use of posters, flyers, and social media, engagement of local leaders and environmental groups.

N
Training on Tree Planting and Maintenance: best tree species for the local environment, proper planting techniques, watering, mulching, and long-term care.
N
Tree Planting Campaign: distribution of seedlings, planting in schools, community centers, roadsides, and farmlands, community-led maintenance groups.
N

Follow-Up and Monitoring: regular visits to check growth, replacement of dead seedlings, progress reporting.

Objectives

N

To educate community members on the importance of trees in climate regulation, soil conservation, and biodiversity protection.

N
To engage at least 100 community members, youths, and local leaders in a tree-planting campaign.
N

To plant75 tree seedlings in strategic locations such as schools, public spaces, farmlands, and roadsides.

N

To promote long-term tree care and environmental stewardship among households and community structures.
