Restoring Ecosystems and Building Climate Resilience Through Tree Planting

Child labour is a persistent challenge in many communities, where children are engaged in hazardous work or excessive household duties instead of attending school. Poverty, cultural norms, and lack of awareness often cause parents to rely on children for labour, unaware of the long-term negative consequences on the child’s future. With the growth of digital communication and social media use in Cameroon and across Africa, online sensitization has become a powerful tool for reaching parents and guardians. Cartoons, in particular, are engaging, easy to understand, emotionally appealing, and accessible even to low-literacy audiences. Using cartoon storytelling can effectively promote positive parenting behaviours and encourage the belief that education—not labour—is the path to a child’s success.
The aim of this project is to raise awareness among parents and guardians on the dangers of child labour and promote children’s right to education through attractive, relatable cartoon-based online content. The audience targeted for this project include: Parents and guardians, community leaders, teachers and education advocates, social media users (Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube), youth and student associations, and the general public. Some of the key Messages to promote education are:
N

“A child belongs in school, not at work.”

N

“A child belongs in school, not at work.”

N

“A child should hold a pencil, not a hawking tray”

N
